Shears Green Junior School Curriculum Statement

At Shears Green Junior School, our curriculum is designed to ensure effective, exciting, and relevant learning for all pupils. We focus on securing firm foundations in English and Mathematics, which underpin excellence in other subjects. Our child-led, knowledge-based curriculum offers a broad range of subjects that engage pupils deeply.

Curriculum Structure and Progression

· Progression of Knowledge and Skills: Our curriculum facilitates the progression of knowledge and skills, ensuring pupils can apply what they learn in various contexts.
· Adaptation for Diverse Needs: We employ an adaptive teaching approach to meet the varied learning needs of our pupils, using the ‘assess, plan, do, review’ model to tailor instruction effectively.

Holistic Development and Pastoral Support

· Supporting the Whole Child: Our robust pastoral support programme nurtures pupils’ social, emotional, and mental well-being, helping them develop resilience and a positive attitude towards learning.
· Engaging Transition Programme: We ensure a smooth transition from Shears Green Infant School with opportunities for pupils to meet new teachers and engage in relationship-building activities, involving parents throughout the process.

Rigorous Teaching Practises

· Daily Rigour in Core Subjects: In Key Stage 2, pupils receive rigorous instruction in maths, reading, and writing, with adaptive strategies to cater to individual learning needs.
· Specialist Teaching: We enhance the curriculum with specialist teachers for PE and music, as well as Forest School sessions, enriching the learning experience.

Conclusion

By focusing on progression, employing adaptive strategies, and supporting the whole child through our pastoral programme, Shears Green Junior School is committed to providing an engaging and relevant curriculum that equips every pupil for success.
