School Council
Welcome to our School Council!
At Shears Green, we believe in empowering our students and giving them a voice. Our School Council is a platform for students to express their ideas, concerns, and suggestions, making a positive impact on our school community.
The School Council consists of two representatives from each class, ensuring that every year group is represented. These representatives are elected by their peers, giving all students the opportunity to participate in the decision-making process. We meet every 2 to 3 weeks to discuss important matters and work towards enhancing our school environment. These meetings provide a space for students to share their thoughts, propose initiatives, and collaborate on projects that benefit everyone.
We value the voices of our students and take their ideas seriously. For example, when children expressed their desire for cheese and beans on their potatoes in the school canteen, our School Council listened and made it happen. This is just one example of how our School Council acts as a catalyst for change, ensuring that student suggestions are implemented whenever possible.
In addition, our School Council actively involves students in decision-making processes. For instance, when it was time to name our school chickens, the School Council facilitated discussions within their classes, allowing all students to be part of the naming process. This not only fostered a sense of ownership but also promoted collaboration and democratic decision-making.
Furthermore, the School Council collaborates with the PTFA to ensure that student perspectives are considered when organising events, making them more inclusive and enjoyable for everyone.
To keep the school community informed about the work of our School Council, we have a dedicated School Council board displayed within the school. This board showcases the current projects and upcoming initiatives. It serves as a visual representation of the active involvement of our students in shaping our school community.
We are proud of the achievements of our School Council and are committed to continuing to provide a platform for our students' voices to be heard. Together, we can make a difference and create a school community that values the ideas and contributions of all its members.
Let's work together to make Shears Green the best it can be!
